Background       A Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, Dr. Fedler received his B.S.A.E. degree in 1979 and his M.S.A.E. and M.S.C.E. degrees in 1981 from Iowa State University. He received his Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering in 1985 from the University of Illinois.  Dr. Fedler is involved in various activities related to mathematical modeling of physical and biological systems. His primary research emphasis is related to single cell protein and algae production from wastewater, water reuse, natural wastewater treatment systems, and by-product development from waste products. Two of Dr. Fedler's publications have received the Top 10 Paper Awards from the American Society for Agricultural Engineers TRANSACTIONS Journal. In addition, he has received the Technical Paper and Presentation Award from the American Society for Engineering Education.
